How can we use personalised feedback to give students better insight into how their studies are progressing, and support teachers in intervening earlier and more effectively so that study success and self regulated learning improve?

With this question in mind, the IguideME team – Erwin van Vliet (Swammerdam Institute), Natasa Brouwer, Clariël Veldhuizen, Tijn van den Kommer and Lara Topalović‑Henn – will be working over the coming years within the project FeedbackGrOw. They use the IguideME tool to give students and teachers, at a glance, insight into the learning environment, the learning process and the learning outcomes. This makes it easier to make timely adjustments, prevent dropout and improve the quality of education.

An Upscaling Grant has been awarded by the Dutch National Education Institute (NKO) to support this work. The full project title is: “Sector-wide upscaling of the IguideME Learning Action Board for improving study success and self‑regulated learning – FeedbackGrOw.”

What is IguideME?
IguideME – which stands for I guide My Education – is an AI‑driven feedback tool integrated into the digital learning environment. It provides students and teachers with personalised feedback on progress, study behaviour and learning outcomes. This helps to strengthen self‑regulated learning, to identify risk of dropout at an early stage and to improve educational quality.

What happens within FeedbackGrOw?
After successful implementation in the research university sector (UvA, VU and RUG), IguideME is now being scaled up across senior secondary vocational education (mbo), universities of applied sciences (hbo) and research universities (wo). In collaboration with Noorderpoort (mbo), Hanze Groningen (hbo), The Hague University of Applied Sciences (hbo), Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e, wo) and the University of Amsterdam, IguideME is being configured in a context‑specific way and embedded sustainably. Through applied and academic research, the impact of IguideME on study success and self‑regulated learning is being investigated. Research is also being carried out into its effectiveness, usability and applicability in different educational formats and curriculum designs.
