Dr. Thijs van Boxtel is an assistant professor at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) where he teaches developmental biology and performs research. As a developmental biologist he has a long-standing interest in how embryonic signaling pathways induce cell identity and behaviour during vertebrate development. Thijs obtained his PhD from the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Amsterdam, worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Francis Crick Institute in London, United Kingdom, and as a research associate at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York, United States. At the UvA he works on the interactions between WNT/BMP/NODAL signaling during gastrulation and during development of the mammary gland using three dimensional cell culture based systems including gastruloids and mammary organoids.
