Last November the international conference ‘Systems Epigenetics: Towards Precision Cancer Medicine’ took place at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam. It was organised by the EU H2020 EpiPredict consortium. Pernette Verschure of the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences chaired the conference and wrote this report.
The conference was a very successful event with excellent research presentations, active discussions and a vibrant atmosphere. It created an ideal environment connecting multidisciplinary international top scientists who critically approached this novel field of systems level epigenetics devoted to precision medicine in cancer. An exciting programme was put together with high-end speakers amongst which a special EMBO Keynote lecture provided by prof. Genevieve Almouzni, director of the Cancer Research Center Institut Curie, Paris (FR).
To ensure maximum interaction and participation, the conference included dedicated workshop-related events. With the Science café ‘Business Ethics Research’ a dialogue and debate on prospects and challenges for translation and commercialization of breakthroughs using systems epigenetics approaches was realized. Moreover, the Gender & Diversity get together helped to address challenges that minorities face in science.
A full list of sponsors allowed to organize this international conference focusing on the important and timely topic of systems epigenetics and its role on cell behavior and precision cancer medicine.
