The Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (SILS)  is one of the largest institutes of the Faculty of Science. Our approximately 240 scientists and staff members work in 16 research groups that perform excellent research centered on three themes:

  1. Cell & Systems Biology
  2. Neurosciences, and
  3. Molecular Life Sciences.

The research group Biosystems Data Analysis is part of the Cell & Systems Biology theme and investigates methods to analyze biological data of diverse nature. In this context we are seeking for a postdoc to engage in a large collaborative project with partners in industry and at universities.

Project description

As postdoc you will work within a large collaborative NWO-funded project ('Chemosense') together with partners at Wageningen University, Leiden University, DSM and Unilever. The Chemosense project entails studying and modeling the relationship between sensory characteristics and advanced chemical analysis of food and taste ingredients. Your task in this project is to develop models for these relationships based on data collected by the partners. These models will need to accommodate nonlinearities and threshold characteristics present in the data using advanced multivariate data analysis and machine learning techniques.

Requirements

You should have a PhD degree in a relevant field ( for example (bio-) statistics, machine learning, chemometrics or sensometrics) and a solid background in applying data analysis techniques to a variety of chemical and/or sensory data.
