Harro Bouwmeester wins Sandmeyer Award 2018

On 6 September 2018, Prof. Harro Bouwmeester (Plant Hormone Biology), received The Sandmeyer Award 2018. Bouwmeester, together with three scientists of Syngenta Crop Protection AG in Switzerland, were rewarded €17.700 for their exceptional work in the field of industrial or applied chemistry.

The prize-winning quartet received accolades for their pioneering work on strigolactones, a family of plant hormones produced by the plant's roots. Together the group explored novel areas of application for this group of hormones.

Involment

The Sandmeyer Award is awarded to an individual (€8.700) - excluding tenured professors - or to a group (€17.700) for outstanding work in industrial or applied chemistry. The work must be completed in Switzerland or with the involvement of a Swiss national, which must have made a substantial contribution to the work. The prize is awarded annually.
